Cycling and Puncheur
You know what they say about cyclists and cafes, right? You always know a good coffee shop by the number of cyclists sitting out the front. Cycling is a big part of Puncheur’s culture, you’ll find bike racks out the front and a couple of times a year we open the orders for Puncheur’s very own Pedla-designed cycle kit.
A puncheur or puncher is a road bicycle racer who specialises in rolling terrain with short but steep climbs. ... Puncheurs are usually relatively well built, with broader shoulders and bigger legs than the average racing cyclist.
For Justin, the strong and punchy nature of a ‘Puncheur’ cyclist is his style of riding. A lifelong cyclist (who also played competitive rugby in his native South Africa), these days he mostly sticks to the road but does own a MTB and gets out on the trails when time allows. He has two bikes, both Colnagos, one is a V1R and the newest addition is the C60.
Occasionally you’ll see Justin in among the riders leaving Puncheur every Friday and Saturday at 6am. Friday’s recovery ride heads south to Twin Waters (approximately 60km) and Saturday’s inland loop could be fast, could be punchy, could be relaxed, but there’s guaranteed to be coffee before and after.
